Help Me Grow/MAPP



What is Help Me Grow?

Help Me Grow is a program for Ohio’s expectant parents, newborns, infants and toddlers, which provides health and developmental services so that children start school healthy and ready to learn.

Who is eligible?
Pregnant women, newborn babies, infants and toddlers under the age of 3 and their families can participate in Help Me Grow!

What services does Help Me Grow provide?
We offer answers to questions about your child’s health and well-being; support and information about your child’s immunizations, nutrition and development; special services such as prenatal visits, home visiting and support.

Newborn Home Visits
Parents in Marion County are offered a visit by a registered public health nurse shortly after the birth of their child. The visit includes: Assessing the baby’s and mother’s health; Parenting and Resource Information; Linking parents to helpful community resources.

Service Coordination
Service Coordinators help families identify strengths, set goals and utilize resources to meet their needs. Other services provided are: Home visitation, developmental screenings and evaluations, identification of activities to promote growth and learning, connection to community resources.

Family Support Specialist
The Family Support Specialist has first hand experience with the Help Me Grow program. The services provided by the Family Support Specialist are: Home visiting, parenting and additional support information, arranging activities for support groups and playgroups, providing parents’ rights information.

MAPP  (Marion Adolescent Pregnancy Program)  Parenting Project


What is the Parenting Project?
The Parenting Project is a home-based program that provides instruction and support to the teen parent in the areas of child development and parenting skills. The Parenting Project includes all teen parents, with a special emphasis on the youngest mothers.

When?
The Parenting Project is best started in the 9th month of pregnancy. The project lasts for 5-6 weeks after birth of the child.

Where?
The Child Development Specialists come into the teen parent’s home at a time that is convenient for the parent and the baby.

Why?
Parenthood is the most important job you will ever have! MAPP’s Child Development Specialists are trained to listen to questions and concerns and provide reliable information.

There is no cost to participate in the Parenting Project. This is a project of the Marion Adolescent Pregnancy Program.

  Goals of the Parenting Project

*To assist teen parents in providing an environment for their child which
           allows for optimum physical, intellectual, and emotional growth.

*To increase the teen parent’s realistic expectations of their child’s
            capabilities at each stage of development.

*To increase the ten parent’s knowledge of appropriate discipline.

*To increase the teen parent’s self-esteem and self confidence.

*To strengthen the support system for the teen parent.

MAPP has received the State of Ohio Governor’s recognition for Teen Pregnancy Prevention and American Medical Association’s Recognition of Excellence in Adolescent Health Care.
