Environmental Health
The goal of the environmental health department is to protect the citizens of Marion against environmental hazards, and to prevent and manage the spread of diseases.

The Marion City Health Department issues licenses for the operation of food services or establishments within the City of Marion.

Besides the normal routine inspections of restaurants and other establishments, the Marion City Health Department is responsible for inspecting vendors to ensure a safe food product is being served. Inspections include the Marion County Fair, Marion Steam Show, Marion Popcorn Festival and other special events. www.odh.state.oh.us Go to "ODH programs"

The City of Marion has five (5) locations that are listed as large generators of infectious waste. These include Marion General Hospital, Med Center, Smith Clinic, United Church Homes and Community Nursing Center. 
 
 

As well as inspecting the food service operations of the cafeteria, the Health Department performs an inspection of the building with the school custodian. Some of the inspections include classrooms, restrooms and playgrounds. 
 
 

The Health Department responds to complaints about garbage and refuse accumulations, sewage, housing, insects and rodents, animals, grass and weeds, along with other general complaints.   Grass and Weed Complaint Form

The Marion City Health Department contracts with a licensed pest control company to perform mosquito fogging of the city.

The department performed surveillance for the West Nile Virus in 2002, by submitting species of dead birds and live adult mosquitoes to the Vector Borne Disease Unit in Columbus. www.odh.state.oh.us Go to "ODH programs"
 
 

The Health Department and the City of Marion has collaborated for six years to offer City residents two (2) scrap tire drop off days. 
 
 

The Health Department licenses and inspects three (3) tattoo and body piercing businesses within the city.
